It’s August. It’s finally beautiful outside. It’s time for some gentlemen’s racing.
Come out with your best riding mates to Spanish Banks on Sunday August 14th for the most prestigious race on the BC cycling calendar! The Spanish Banks Gentlemen’s race will test your team’s physical abilities and navigational skills as you ride to some of the Lower Mainland’s most scenic destinations. Expect fast and exciting racing against some of BC’s finest hobbyist bicycle racers!
Date and Time:
Sunday August 14th
The race starts @ 9am
Please have your team at the start area by 8:45am to receive race instructions.
Day-of registration starts at 8:15am
Location:
The race will start from the Spanish Banks East Concession. This is the second concession stand you pass as you head west on NW Marine Dr along the water.
Race Details:
This is a Team Race. Teams can be anywhere in size from a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 5 riders. Your team can include men and/or women from all racing categories. Don’t know your racing category? No big deal, you’re still in. But providing us with this information, if you have it, helps us more accurately handicap the race to make it more fair for all involved.
Teams will be given a series of locations they will be required to ride to. These locations will be provided at the 8:45am pre-race meeting. At each location, your team will need to take a photo of the entire team (or 4 riders and 5 bikes, if no one else is available to take your picture) and email that photo to the race officials (@ gentsracing@gmail.com). Once you have got all the shots, haul ass back to Spanish banks to see if your team has made the podium!
Anyone is welcome as long as they are willing to respect the rules of the road and gentleman’s racing. If you are getting this email, most likely you already have a good understanding about what this means. Please be cool to everyone you encounter on the ride and race honestly.
The Course:
There will be between 2 and 4 checkpoints riders will have to reach to complete the race. Come the the race with the expectation that you will be riding at least 80kms and possibly quite a bit more.
There will be some climbing.
There probably won’t be any dirt, but who knows?
Teams will be able to ride to the checkpoints in any order they choose. Any route is fair game, as long as you get the shots at each location.
Cost:
$0 to race.
Registration:
Registering your team is easy. Just send an email to gentsracing@gmail.com with your team name, a list of team members and their respective race category (if they have one). We are going to be handicapping the race. How? We’re not quite sure yet, but racing category is likely to be a determining factor. We will give you all the details at the pre-race meeting.
Even though there will be day-of registration, it would be a huge help to those organizing the event if you and your team could pre-register. We would love to provide (and by provide, we mean sell at a very low cost) some delicious food and beverages at the finish for all racers, but we need to get an idea of how much interest there is before we fire up the bbq and start icing down drinks.
